Tips to Taking Care of Your Invisalign

Invisalign clear teeth aligners, also known as invisible retainers, are now the go-to orthodontic appliance whenever you need to realign your teeth such as what happens if you have crowding of your teeth or there’s bad bite. The thing is, while Invisalign gives you optimum comfort, exceptional ease of use, and superb management of some orthodontic problems, you’d have to really take good care of them to help ensure their overall functionality. Taking care of your Invisalign clear aligners should not be a chore. Here are some tips to help you take care of it in a breeze.

Maintain good oral hygiene

James Huang from All In One Dental always advises their patients to maintain excellent oral hygiene especially if they have just received their clear aligners. Aside from the usual brushing and flossing of the teeth, however, you will also need to clean the Invisalign tray itself.

It is highly recommended that you brush your teeth after each meal and to floss your dentition at least twice a day. That being said, you will need to incorporate cleaning of the invisible retainers in your routine, too. You can easily remove the retainers so you can go about the usual business of performing meticulous oral hygiene.

Once you’re done with your teeth, you can focus your attention on your clear aligners. You can use especially formulated Invisalign cleaning solutions to make your work easier, albeit at a cost. For practical purposes, however, you can simply rinse your retainers with lukewarm water before brushing it with a soft-bristled toothbrush. If you can get your hands on a brush that’s specifically designed for clear retainers, then that would be better.

If you notice calcium buildup, you may want to soak your Invisalign in a retainer cleaning solution or even a solution made for dentures. This helps remove any calcium buildup, making it cleaner for your teeth.

Remove your clear aligners whenever you eat

While it is perfectly okay to wear your clear retainers while eating, there may be some food that can scratch its surface. It is thus, a lot better to remove your invisible teeth aligners during meals. This helps retain its full functionality while also preventing it from getting inadvertently damaged. Besides, you can always replace it afterwards.

Protect your aligners if you have to play sports

If you have to play sports, especially those wherein there is possible contact with other players, you might need to wear a protective mouth guard to help keep your retainers in place. A better solution would be to remove it completely during the entire duration of the game. You can then put it back on once the game is over.

Perform a nightly cleaning routine

In addition to cleaning your retainers after every meals, you will also have to remove and soak it in an appropriate solution before going to bed. You’re also not supposed to wear it to sleep.

Caring for your Invisalign teeth aligners is easy. Just consider it as a natural part of your dentition and you already know what you need to do.
