What is the cost of braces in Calgary?
Our orthodontists hate seeing kids go without treatment due to finances so we try to do whatever we can to make braces affordable and convenient. The cost of braces for over 90% of patients at Family Braces is less than $5,000 for full orthodontic treatment, and this includes the cost of orthodontic records (3D scan, photos, and x-rays), the braces, all orthodontic adjustments, upper and lower retainers, and 12 months of monitoring after the end of treatment. Our price of braces is all inclusive – there are no hidden fees at all!
When inquiring about orthodontic fees from other clinics, be sure to ask if you will be receiving treatment from an orthodontist and what additional fees they charge for orthodontic records (3D scan, photos, and x-rays), retainers, and/or post-treatment monitoring. These fees can quick add up to hundreds or thousands of dollars.
At Family Braces, we understand that getting braces in Calgary is very expensive and a tremendous investment for you and your family – something that you only want to do once and do right. We will do everything we can to educate you about the treatment so that you can make the best decision for you or your child.
What different types of braces do you offer?
We offer different types of braces to suit the individual needs of our patients.
Metal braces – Effective and efficient. Get the best outcome at the best price.
Ceramic braces – A great option for people concerned about esthetics.
Lingual braces – Glued to the inside of teeth and not the outside, these braces are completely hidden from view. No one will know you have braces… unless you tell them!
Invisalign – An alternative to braces that straightens teeth using clear plastic aligners instead of metal brackets and wires.
Getting Braces: Procedure
Getting an expert opinion from one of our Calgary orthodontists as to whether you or your child needs braces is easier than you may think! No referral is necessary. Simply book a free orthodontic examination online or give us a call at 403-202-9220.
At the examination, our orthodontists will take a full set of orthodontic records including photos, x-rays and a 3D digital scan of your teeth. There is no charge for these records as they are essential for our orthodontists to make an accurate diagnosis so that they can properly plan you or your child’s orthodontic treatment.
Once you have had your free initial examination and our orthodontists have shared with you what they feel is the best orthodontic treatment for you, getting started with braces in Calgary is easier than you may think. It takes about 1.5 hours to glue the braces to the surface of your teeth, and the procedure is completely painless. There are no needles, anaesthetic or drills involved. In fact, the toughest part of the appointment will be staying awake!
When should my child get full braces?
Typically, we like to start full treatment in braces between the ages of 11 to 13 when almost all of the permanent teeth are in, but still at a young enough age when your child is still growing. This is important because many times we can use the natural growth of the jaws to correct potential problems with your child’s bite and jaw alignment and try to treat the problems at an early age to avoid future extractions of teeth or jaw surgery.
Will braces hurt?
Our Calgary orthodontists use gentle, low force wires that tremendously minimize the discomfort compared to previous generations of braces. The pain your parents remember feeling when their braces were adjusted is a thing of the past and nothing like what braces are today.
I want straight teeth but I don’t want braces! What are my options?
Over 25% of all orthodontic patients are adults, and more and more adults are opting to get treatment every year to straighten their crooked teeth. However, adults typically don’t want braces! For these patients, we offer Invisalign invisible braces, clear braces and hidden braces as esthetic alternatives to traditional metal braces. In particular, most adults are curious as to whether they are good candidates for Invisalign. About 70% of all orthodontic patients can be treated with Invisalign, and as the technology that drives Invisalign improves, we are able to treat more and more complex cases.

What are retainers and will I need them? How long will I have to wear them?
A retainer is a custom-made plastic appliance designed to “retain” or hold your teeth in their final, straight position. Retainers prevent your teeth from shifting after the braces come off and they have to be worn in order to keep your teeth straight. Therefore, anyone who has had braces will need retainers if they want to keep the beautiful results. Retainers are typically worn full time for the first 6 months after the braces are removed and then night times thereafter. Think of retainers like maintenance for your smile.
How many retainers will I receive?
Kids lose things, it’s a fact of life! At Family Braces, we believe the worst thing that can happen after investing so much time and money in braces is a kid losing a retainer and teeth shifting because of it! We provide 1 set of retainers in your treatment, and before you complete your treatment you’ll have the option to purchase an additional 3 sets of retainers in a retainer package. This way you have a back up, and a back up for the back up. We want to give our patients a beautiful smile for life and we try to give our patients the tools to make it happen!
